The Miele Kitchen Appliance Visualizer, an application used to configure appliances and the kitchen itself within a realtime environment running on very large Touchscreens.

What you have seen on the very first image is the realtime-environment – just not in-engine – but rendered offline with no changes made. This was sort of a byproduct of one of the pipeline steps.

Customers were able to create a configuration online with a standard browser. This configuration could be transferred via several digital means, such as generated codeblock, QR-Code and Mail. Once at a Miele-Store, this config could be loaded, checked, reconfigured and sent back to the customer, if desired.

This all worked with the help of an online-database. It was capable of storing the configuration data from the clients and offered automatic update solutions for the software.

Below is number two of the five alternate versions for the environment. The different product ranges had their own colour scheme to match the appliance design language.

Engine used was Unity. We replaced the unfortunate default lightbaker of Unity 4/5 with a custom solution. Same happened with most of the shaders. The tools to do this were custom written.

There was even a 2.5D version of the renderer. Web plugins are a major hassle for users and webgl was in its infancy, so we built a from-scratch 2.5D-in-browser-engine which was capable of depth layers, sorting and multiple perspectives while trying our best to adhere to the html standard to get it running on the slowest machine imaginable. This 2.5D renderer was, compared to the 3D version, feature complete. It was also driven by the aforementioned database.
