Under the umbrella term fREN, Technicon Design developed several solutions in the realm of mixed/matched/virtual reality for use in the automotive industry.

This was, to use their own words, “to close the gap between virtual view and the related haptic feedback the human mind is expecting”.The core of the service we offered was a Mixed Reality Simulation. It was possible to walk around and enter the car in one seamless motion while wearing the HMD. 

The geometry you saw in the HMD matched the geometry you could interact with. The setup was portable and could be matched to environments, or rather cars, of any nature. It was operatable from a touchscreen-device outside of the simulation or via an HUD-like gesture driven interface while using the HMD.

We delivered VR Data preparation training and setup know how for use in seat boxes, demonstrators,  and VR-events. Besides this, we offered services for general know-how transfer in related industries.

The technology for calibrating physical objects with VR-data has its source in an internal development process at Technicon Design.

It was possible to walk around and enter the car in one seamless motion while wearing the HMD. The geometry you saw matched the geometry you could interact with.

The whole setup was portable and could be matched to environments, or rather cars, trucks or other road vehicles of any nature.

As indicated in the photos, environment geometry and surfaces could be switched to accomodate different use cases. Examples range from use as a control tool for general geometry and colour & trim previews to a quick surface analysis. See next images.

As there were colour and environment variants to choose from, it was decided to defer the controls over this to an external viewer outside of the simulation. As such, the software was operatable from a wireless touchscreen-device.

At times, a second operator is not feasible. As a result, we created a gesture driven interface to switch scenes and geometry  from inside the simulation, wearing the HUD.
